In Putumayo, nearly all families consume untreated water exposing them to deadly water borne diseases such as diarrhoea. Diarrhoeal disease is the second leading cause of dead in children under the age of 5, it is both preventable and treatable. Diarrheal disease contributes to 13.9% of deaths in Colombian children under the age of 5

  • Through our partnership with Asopofin in Colombia, we successfully procured and delivered 100 ceramic water filters to 40 children and families of the Maria Auxiliadora School as well as 290 inhabitants of three remote villages in the area. Each ceramic filter provides the clean drinking water requirements for a family of up to 8 and removes 99.9% to 100% of bacteria and pathogens from contaminated water. Using training materials provided by CAWST in Calgary, we conducted sanitation and hygiene training as well as filter usage and maintenance.

In order to ensure the safe drinking water needs of the children during the day, we purchased and installed a clean water filtration system at Maria Auxiliadora school.
